Mr. Daniels:
Concem'ing your septic system problems, I was on site April 22, 1977, when
the tank was pimped down. There is one very large tank divided into two
compartments. The tank appears to be of generous capacity, but it does
empty directly into a single outlet pipe. I can still find no evidence of
a drainfield and recent inspection shows that there is again flowage of
effluent out of the ground near your tennis court. This condition, as you
are aware, is a violation of Orono Municipal Code Section 82.030(a) which
defines surface discharge as a nuisance endangering the public health.
You are therefore advised that you must install an approved sewage treatment
drainfield vrithin 60 days, and that until such time that a drainfield is
constructed, you shall be responsible for COTq)letely stopping the surfacing
of efr^uent. This may require frequent tank punqping.
Please call for infopiation regarding the drainfield installation. Briefly,
y^ must submit a soils analysis including percolation tests, and a drain*
field design prepared by a qualified person. Failure to submit this
information and apply for the installation permit will be grounds for legal
action.
