BOX 218
SPRING PARK, MN. 5S384
ei2f471-8503
December 15,1982
Mr. & Mrs. Ken Daniels
2905 Fox Street
Long Lake, MN 55356
3 9 l-o
.j
li ! i
DEC 1 T 1982 1
Mr. & Mrs. Daniels,
In the summer of 1977 we were contacted by you to correct a sewage surfacing
problem. After a percolation test and site evaluation done by Carl Borg it
was submitted to the City of Orono for approval. After some discussion and
minor changes, a permit was Issued to us on September 15,1977, to install a
new drainfleld. After several inspections, while work was in progress, it
was approved and accepted that the drainfleld was Installed as designed.
Sometime in the summer of 1982 the City of Orono made us aware that water
from the drainfleld was running onto the street. After much discussion as
to how to correct the.existing problem it was determined to install a mound
system. After a design, approved by the City of Orono, a permit was issued
to install this system. We were issued this permit August 16,1982 and began
work shortly thereafter. Mr. Gaffron, the city inspector, made numerous in
spections at various stages of the project.
On December 10,1982 1 was told that the mound was overflowing. After much
tliought as to why this was happening, 1 contacted Mrs. Daniels on Monday
December 13, to inform her. After discussing it with her, I suggested to
check the line where the plumbing leaves the house. We found tv.o lines, one
being a 6” line, the other a 4" line. After further checking we discovered
the 4" was for laundry and the 6" was for the bathrooms. After the water stopped
running in both lines for about 15 minutes, we checked a manhole at the out
let of your septic tank. At this point we expected to find that there wasn't
any water running out of the tank. Surprisingly there was still quite a little
water running. This was rather surprising since there wasn't any water being
used in the house.
At this point, I discussed with Mrs. Daniels, that I thought there might be
water running through the tank which is not being drained from the house. I
proposed to stop by early the next morning and check this same manhole at the
outlet of the tank. This morning, December 15, I stopped by at 4:45 A.M. and
found the water was still running. There Were no lights on in the house that
1 could see, so I assumed no one was up and therefore not any water was being
used.
I am of the opinion that the mound system would be adequate for your house.
.V;•
s
