Box 66 Crystal Bay, MN 55323 Re: Council Approval of Variance Application # 2335 Lawrence Molsather and Linda Sallee 3285 Carman Road Rebuilding and Extension of Deck Dear Mayor: Linda and I want to thank you and the Council members for approving our request to rebuild and extend our deck. Your approval was very important in helping us utilize and enjoy our home. As we indicated, and as was confirmed by the Council, we felt our request was of a scale that was reasonable, and it was reaffirming to work through the process with a positive outcome . We also appreciate the way your experienced style helped us through an otherwise tense (for us) meeting. We also want to express our appreciation to the members of the Planning Commission for working with us and guiding us to an acceptable end result. We didn't get all of what we had originally hoped for, but we ended up with a deck that meets our basic needs, and we understand the need for such compromise. Sitting through major portions of the two previous Planning Commission meetings was also quite interesting. We were not aware of the scale and intensity of ongoing pressure for development and change within the City. It was clear that everybody wants something, and the City needs people like the Commission members who are willing to invest their time and place themselves in controversial situations to preserve the quality and character of the City. We have a much greater appreciation for them as individuals and for the job they do . We were also quite impressed with the work of the City Planning staff. They showed significant skill in identifying and clarifying issues associated with the various agenda items. Again, our thanks to you and the Council, as well as the Planning Commission and Planning Department staff. :;=;m~ Lawrence R.
