City of Orono
2750 Kelley Parkway
P.O. Box 66
Orono, MN 55323
Phone: (612) 473-7357 Fax: (612) 473-0510
MEMORANDUM
DATE: February 12, 1999
TO: Ron, Greg, Mike
FROM: Liz Van Zomeren, City Planner/Zoning Administrator
SUBJECT: Tax -Forfeited land on Brown Road South
Steven Bohl has applied for a sketch plan for a 7 lot subdivision for a parcel of land between
Willow Drive South and Brown Road South. (See Section Map). Near this parcel is a 50' x
200' section of land labeled "exception".
In 1982 this strip of land next to Brown Road South was forfeited to the State of Minnesota for
nonpayment of taxes. The City of Orono applied for conveyance of the land for drainage and
flood control.
Does the City continue to need this parcel for drainage and flood control? If not, would it be
beneficial to inform the County to make it available for sale to the adjacent property owner so
that Mr. Bohl can purchase the property and include it in his development proposal? If that
happened, it would be included in any conservation and flowage agreements.
Please let me know what you think about this idea. Mr. Bohl intends to file for preliminary
plat on Wed, Feb. 17th if the PC is favorable to his sketch plan on Tuesday.
