�VV�EREAS, the National Association of Town Watch (NATV� is sponsoring a
unique nationwide crime and drug prevention program on August 5, 1997, called "National Night
Out"; and
W�REAS,the 14th Annual National Night Out"provides a unique opportuiuty for �
the City of Orono to join forces with thousands of other communities across the country in
- promoting cooperative,police/community crime prevention efforts; and �
WHEp2EAS, the North Tonka Crime Prevention Coalition plays a vital role in
� assisting the Orono Police Department through joint crime and drug prevention efforts in the City
of Orono, and is supporting "National Night Out 1997" locally; and
�YEREAS,it is essential that all citizens of Orono be aware of the importance of
crime prevention programs and the impact their participation can have on reducing crime,drugs,and
� violence in Orono; and
W�1t�AS,police/community partnerships and neighborhood safety and awareness
and cooperation are important themes of the "National Night Out"program.
1�tOW, 'I'Y��FORE, �E IT RESOI,VLD that the Orono City Council does
hereby ca11 upon all.,itizens of Orono to join the North Tonka Crime Prevention Coalition and the
National Association of Town Watch in supporting the"14th Annual National Night Out" on August
5, 1997.
�'I.T�tT�pt,LE'1�IT�E�SOI,�EID TH�,'I',the Orono City Council does hereby
proclaim Tuesday,August 5, 1997 as "NATIONAL rIIGHT OUT" in the City of Orono,Minnesota
Adopted at a regulaz Council meeting July 14, 1997. .
