HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 7664 Establishing Drug Forfeiture Fund and Renaming Drug/Forgeiture Felony Fund iitniv CITY OF ORONO RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL G~ NO. 7664 *11111fr kESHo�'" A RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING THE DRUG FORFEITURE (JES) FUND AND RENAMING DRUG/FORFEITURE FELONY FUND TO POLICE FORFEITURE FUND WHEREAS, The City of Orono recognizes the need to efficiently manage certain revenues designated for specific purposes; and WHEREAS,the establishment and renaming of special revenue funds will enhance the accountability and transparency of these funds; and WHEREAS, on November 24, 1997, the Drug/Felony Forfeiture Fund was established to track cash and property seized relating to drug and/or felony type criminal activity, donations received specifically for the police department, or such other revenues as appropriate and authorized; and WHEREAS, the annual equitable sharing report requires that the funds be tracked separately between Justice and Treasury Fund and other types of police forfeiture activity non-related to the Justice Equitable Sharing activities; and NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the Drug Forfeiture (JES) Fund(232)be established and the Drug/Felony Forfeiture Fund is renamed to Police Forfeiture Fund(231) BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that $227,008 related to Justice Fund and$197,539.35 related to Treasury Funds, total of$424,547.35, will be transferred from the Police Forfeiture Fund(231) to the Drug Forfeiture (JES) Fund(232). 1. Establishment of Special Revenue Fund The City of Orono hereby establishes a special revenue fund titled Drug Forfeiture (JES) Fund(232) for the purpose of accounting for revenues and expenses related to the Justice Equitable Sharing activities. The City of Orono will thus rename the Drug/Felony Forfeiture Fund(231) to Police Forfeiture Fund. 2. Funding Sources The funds will receive revenues from drug, felony, and forfeiture activities of the Police Department. 3. Use of Funds CITY OF ORONO CI RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL ��, �� ~CIL No. 7664 'YEsHO Monies in these special revenue funds are restricted for use related to drug, DWI and other authorized enforcement activities. 4. Administration The finance depai talent shall be responsible for the administration of the special revenue funds, including the tracking of revenues and expenditures. The police department will assist in ensuring that funds are used for related and authorized expenditures. 5. Effective Date This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its passage and adoption. Adopted by the City Council of Orono, Minnesota at a regular meeting held on February 23, 2026.
