He probed to find whether there is a second tank and whether a drainfield exists past the tank, and found neither. I requested twice from Sullivan's Services any information they might have about the existing system, but they never responded and presumably had no additional information. Perhaps the only way to really determine what is there is to dig it all up. It seems likely, considering the relative age of the system, that the system is very substandard and obviously is not accepting the flow from your household. The system needs to be replaced. I know you are aware of this, and that you feel that the existing house has a limited life and will likely be demolished by a subsequent buyer who will likely put up a new home on this 2 1/4 acre lot. Based on these assumptions, I know you would like to do as minimal a repair as possible to get by for the interim. However, the apparent condition of your existing system is so poor as to be a candidate for total replacement. Also, Lyle tells me that the low area just west of your existing tank is very wet, and would not be conducive to merely adding some drainfield to the existing tank. It would seem likely that you will have to include a pimp ! n the system one way or another. in summary, I don't think there is much of a potential for the 'minimal' repairs you were hoping for. Please refer to the repairs worksheet enclosed. You will have to have some soil testing and design work done. You might wish to consider insta 11 ing a system that a 11 or portions of cou ld be used by a future house on the property - this could be a selling point for a prospective buyer.
