� A RESOLUTION COMMENDING
DAVE CHILDS
FOR HIS OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS
TO THE CITY OF ORONO
WHEREAS,the City of Orono,in recent years,has faced a large number of critical issues;
and �
WHEREAS,some of these require cooperative efforts among the lake area cities and other
agencies; and
_ WHEREAS,aspects of these issues require expertise beyond those of the Orono City staff;
and
� WHEREAS,Dave Childs,Minnetonka City Manager,has provided leadership in facilitating
• j oint efforts involving lake area cities and other agencies to address issues related to Lake
Minnetonka; and
WHEREAS,he has contributed his expertise and abilities, as well as endless hours of his
time to providing assistance to the City on a number of key issues,including the following:
• He shared his experiences and insights regarding the consolidation of
municipalities with the Mayors and City Administrators of Long Lake and
Orono when they were in early discussions regarding initiating a
consolidation study.
• He has served as a coach and mentor to the Orono City Administrator to
assist fhe City Administrator in addressing organizational issues, and in
furthering his professional development.
• He has served as a resource person to assist in planning a team building/role
clarification workshop for the Orono City Council and City Administrator.

WHEREAS,he has volunteered his time and talents to serve as co-facilitator of the Long
Lake/Orono Consolidation Study Committee; and
WHEREAS,his knowledge of the process of consolidating local governments in Australia,
and his considerable city management experience,have enabled him to bring important insights to
the Consolidation Committee's study process; and
WHEREAS,his "big picture"perspective assisted the Committee in setting a clear scope
and focus for its study,and has enabled the Committee to tackle complex issues without becoming
mired in detail; and '
WHEREAS,he has recently accepted a new City Manager position that will take him away
from Minnesota.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Orono City Council does hereby
• express its sincere appreciation to Dave Childs for his invaluable contributions to the City, and for
his exemplary leadership and outstanding contributions as co-facilitator of the Long Lake/Orono
Consolidation Study Committee;and does also hereby extend to him best wishes in his new position.
Adopted by the City Council of Orono,Minnesota at a regular meeting held this l Oth day of
April, 2000.
