O O . �b. - CITY of ORONO � � �,� G'� RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL . . �`9I�ESI��4�' NO. � � � � RESOLUTION ADOPTING A PLAN FOR COOPERATION AND COMSINATION WITH THE CITY OF LONG LAKE . BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Orono, Minnesota, as follows: Section 1. BACKGROiTND. 1.01. In the summer of 1999,the City Councils of the Cities of Orono and Long Lake created the Long Lake - Orono Consolidation Study Committee to examine whether the two eities should merge. , . 1.02. On May 25, 2000, the committee adopted its findings and recommendations in favor of � merger. These were amended by the committee on June 1, 2000. The findings and recommendations constitute a plan for cooperation and combination under Minn. Stat. Sec. 46�.82. ' 1.03. The plan proposes a charter for the new city,to create four wards and a seven-member City Council. The plan asks the Minnesota Board of Government Innovation and Cooperation . to �vaive four statutory requirements, including the requirement that a charter commission be established to prepare the draft charter. Section 2. COUNCIL ACTION. 2.01. The City Council adopts the plan for cooperation and combination prepared by the Long Lake - Orono Consolidation Study Committee, dated May 25, 2000 and amended June 1, 2000. The plan is incorporated into this resolution by reference. 2.02. If the Minnesota Board of Government Innovation ancl Cooperation does not approve the request to waive the formation of a charter commission,the City Council requests that the chief judge of the Hennepin County District Court immediately appoint a charter commission to frame a charter for the proposed merged city, to be voted upon at the same time as the question of inerger. � • Page 1 of 2 � 0 _ • � O /� � � o o � ��b. - CITY of ORONO � ti '�' RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL ��`9kE p4�'G . The City Council directs the city clerk to send copies of the adopted plan and certified copies of this resolution to the Minnesota Board of Government Innovation and Cooperation and to the chief judge of the Hennepin County District Court.
