' �S, the City of Orono is included in an approved
cable service territory in the major metrc�paiitan suburban area, and
��AS, Minnesota Statutes Section 238.08, Subd. 5, authorizes mLmi- � .
cipalities to delegate to a joint cable oamiission their pawer to prepare,
adapt, grant, administer an�d enforce a cable television franchise and to
establish rates there�der, and
WT�F�S, it is of the utsnost importarzce for ocmmunities to atte�t to
deal with the franchising process and with subsequent regulation of cable tele-
vision in a manner best serving the public interest, arld
Tn�REAS, by joint and 000perative action with other cities in the �
. approved cable service territory, the City of Or ono �
share in the expense of the study of the franchising and regulatory prooess, can
develap a uniform approach to the matter of franchising, .and can explore possi-
bilities of joint and arm►on action or� a permanent basis, and
W�, the City deents it proper anc3 in the public interest t�o enter
into a Joint ancl Coope�cative Agrean�ent presented at this meeting and on file in � .
the Office of the City Clerk.
NOin1 TI�I�FORE, be it resolved t7y the Orono City Council
as follows:
1. That the City of orono � participate in the Lake
Minnetonka Cable Camnunications Camiissial. '
2. That the appropriate official execute the Joint and Coo�erative
Agreement and file it with the City Administrator of the the City
of Tonka Bay.
3. That the City of Orono appofnt as its tw� Directors .
to represe.nt it on the Joint Catmision, Mary C. Butler
' a member of the City Council, who resides at 3� asco ircZ'e,
