HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 9254%, Resolution No. 925 RESOLUTION REQUESTING MINNEHAHA CREEK WATERSHED DISTRICT TO REVIEW THE PETITION AND SUPPLEMENTAL PETITION OF THE LAKE MINNETONKA CONSERVATION DISTRICT FOR THE UPPER WATERSHED STORAGE AND RETENTION PROJECT WHEREAS, on July 15, 1975, the Lake Minnetonka Conservation District petitioned the Board of Managers of the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District to undertake the Upper Watershed Storage and Retention Project, and WHEREAS, in June, 1976, the engineer for the Watershed District submitted his preliminary report on the feasibility of the project, and WHEREAS, on November 30, 1976, the Watershed District held a public hearing on the petition pursuant to the statutes, and WHEREAS, on April 27, 1977, the Lake Minnetonka • Conservation District submitted a supplement to its original petition which requested that the Watershed District proceed with the French Lake Basin as the first stage in the overall project, and WHEREAS, on May 25, 1977, the engineer for the Watershed District submitted technical data to the Watershed District regarding the proposed French Lake Retention Basin, and WHEREAS, thereafter the Watershed District has been studying the question of whether or not to proceed with all or a portion of the above project, and WHEREAS, it is evident from the surface water runoff problems, high lake level problems, and erosion problems which have developed in the summer of 1978, from the rainfall in 1978, which rainfall is not markedly above the normal rain- fall for such a period, NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Orono as follows: 1. The present problems which have developed from a normal rainfall underscore the need for the immediate review of the status of the above project, which project will assist in ameliorating the above described problems. i • 2. The city requests that the Watershed District have the additional hearings, if any, as may be required by law and thereafter vote to approve or disapprove all or a portion of the above project. 3. The City of Orono, based upon the information avail- able to it to date, approves of the general concept and objec- tives of the above project.
