DATE: November 7, 1984
SUBJECT: Write-in Votes in Pr-cinct I
At approximately 10:30 A.M. toay, November 7, 1984, Mr. Gary Printup
called asking for total votes in Precincts 1 ar,d 4 in the contests
between John BirgPr and Gerry Mitchell and also Patrick Trueman and
Gerry Sikoiski. These results were given to him. He then asked how
many write-in votes he received, I told him he received 2 votes in
Precinct 2. He stated his surprise at this by saying he and his w.fe
hadwritten in his name for councilmember in Precinct I. 1 asked him if
he co;:ld call me back later in the morning while I checke.: see if his
vote total was placed on the wrong line of the tally sheet, under
Precinct 2 instead of Precinct 1. He said hw would give me time to
check and call me back later in the morning. I then checked each
precinct tally sheet for the municipal election and noted that the only
precinct tally to show write-in votes for Printup was Precinct 2.
John Gerhardson talked to Bruce Willis of Popham Haik about this matter
and was told that this natter should be brought to the attention of the
Canvassing Board for their direction. Mr. Printup was told when he
c-Iled back that he was welcome to attend the Canvassing Board meeting
at 5:00 P.M. tonight. He stated that talking to neighbors he thought
there should be about 16 votes for people in the Crystal Bay area. He
stated that these write-ins were to show their dissatisfaction with
the Crystal Bay Area sewer.
