Re: City Property Adjacent to Outlot A, Bayside Landing
Dear Mr. Harren:
City Administrator Mark Bernhardson has requested that I
research and respond to your questions regarding the issue of a
lake access corridor near Outlot A, Bayside Landing. After a
review of documents in City files, I have concluded that the City
has a 30' corridor of property immediately adjacent to Outlet A,
Bayside Landing, lying between Outlot A and the Rowlette
property. A survey/plat compilation of the area is attached for
your review.
Pub lie Works Director John Gerhard son informs me that
although this corridor exists between the lake and the County
road, it is not a "designated" access. Any approval for actual
use of that corridor as an access to the lake would have to be
approved by the Public Works Department.
Note that the relocation of this "alley" occured in the mid-
1970s, and resulted from an encroachment of the Rowlette's
house (then owned by Thomas Betz) upon a previously existing
north/south alley called Lake Street. In deed transfers approved
by the City in 1976, Andrew and Nellie Miner were deeded portions
of Lake Street south of a prescribed "Line B". The Rowlette
property is described as being northeast of a line parallel with
and 30' northeasterly of said Line B. The 30' gap was intended
to remain as City property to replace the pre-existing
north/south Lake Street corridor.
An interesting point is that while the platting of Bayside
Landing and the tax description of Rowlette's property both
exclude this 30' corridor, the current Hennepin County plat maps
contain inconsistencies with al 1 the other documentation. City
staff will be contacting the County to attempt to have the plat
maps corrected.

outlot. Whether he was on the outlot or in the 30' corridor, we
would like to know who that contractor was if you have that
information. We have been unable to determine which City staff
member, if any, talked to this contractor. All such questions
likely would have been referred to the Public Works Director. If
you can provide the contractor's name, or if you have further
questions regarding use of the property in question, please
contact Public Works Director John Gerhardson at 473-7357.
