• • • • k RECOGNIZING THE NAME DAKOTA AVENUE FOR A
CERTAIN STREET IN ORONO AND CHANGING THE
NAME OF ANOTHER STREET FROM DAKOTA AVENUE
_ TO AN EXTENSION OF LONG LAKE BOULEVARD
WHEREAS, the City Council has been made aware of a confusing
situation wherein two separate street names and number series are
being used by the ten homeowners residing on one short cul de sac
street; and
� WHEREAS in accordance with Plinnesota Statutes 412 . 221 Subd. 18,
and Chapter 26 of the Orono Municipal Code, it is the duty and
responsibility of the City to provide a simple, uniform and consistent
street riaming and addressing system to assure general public conv�nience
and in particular to assure prompt response to any emergency in the
vicinity; and �
WHEREAS, the City Planner, Public Works Coordinator and Police
Chief have recommended a consistent street name and address number system
• to assure th� general public health, safety and welfare, which system
also requires the least individual disruption from existing address
useage; and
WHEREAS, each affected homeowner individually and as a member
of the neighborhood has had the opportunity to discuss and to cast a
straw ballot for a desired name for the subject street.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the
City of Orono hereby orders the following changes in the street naming
and numbering system:
1) The dedicated street and cul de sac located within
the plat of Johnston' s Rearrangemen� of Albee' s
Long Lake Addition, Section 26, T�wnship 118, Range
23, City of Orono, �County of Hennepin, originally
platted as Sumac Lane, shall henceforth be known
as DAKOTA AVENUE. •
2) Al1 properties having frontage on and primary access
from DAKOTA AVENUE shall be assigned the following
house numbers and addresses, which shall be the only
addresses used for official records and for rural
route mailing purposes: (all in the plat of Johnston' s
Rearrangement of Albee' s Long Lake Addition) :

3) The naming and readdressing of properties along DAKOTA
AVENUE shall not in itself. change the status of said
street. The street is a pr�vately constructed and
privately maintained gravel road located wholely
within a dedicated public right of way. The City
has never formally accepted nor opened said street
and will not consider c�oing so until it is recon-
. structed to current public road standards. .
4) The north-south street running southerly from Sixth
• Avenue North (County Road 6) to Long Lake Boulevard
along the west line of Section 26, Township 118,
Range 23, shall hereby have its name changed from �
Dakota Avenue to be an extension of LONG LAKE BOULEVARD.
All properties� having frontage on and pr.imary access
from this street shall be assigned Long Lake Boulevard
addresses.
5) The City Council further directs City. staff to affect
the necessary_ changes in street identification signs
and to notify all affected parties including the post
office, school district, emer.gency services and the
public at large.
a) The street sign at Sixth Avenue North sha11 be
changed from Dakota Avenue to Long Lake Boulevard.
b) A new Dakota Avenue str.eet sign shall be erected `
at the corner of Dakota Avenue and Long Lake Boulevard.
