City Council members present: Mayor Bob Tunheim, •ity Council Members Alisa Benson,
Jacqueline Ricks, Steve Persian. Absent: Jon Schwingl:r.
Staff present: City Administrator Adam Edwards, Co i unications Specialist Rachel Cotter, City
Clerk Christine Lusian.
COMMUNICATION AND SOCIAL MEDIA POLI Y
Staff presented on external communications and an upd=ted social media policy, asking council
for input on priorities. The group discussed guiding pri ciples of trust, transparency, and fact-
based messaging on all communication channels (email text,website, events, social media,
utility bills, media, signs,newsletters) for all departme s, with Facebook, Instagram, Linkedln,
and Nextdoor as primary platforms. Council emphasize. a consistent, conservative and
professional tone, clear messaging across departments, ;lignment with the council code of
conduct, website policy, and defined spokesperson role. (Mayor for council, Adam for staff).
Goals include building trust, approaching humor carefu ly to maintain professionalism,
strengthening two-way communication, tightening bran.ing, ensuring mobile-friendliness, using
more photos of people, growing audience reach, and su i eying residents on preferred
communication methods. Council requested additional 'ime to review the social media policy and
provide feedback.
