RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL

OPPOSING LOCATION OF A SEWAGE SLUDGE
DISPOSAL SITE IN THE CITY OF MINNETRISTA
WHEREAS , the City of Orono and its citizens are totally
concerned with preservation and protection of the water quality of
L�:'ce Minnetonka, and
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council has identified a potential
sewage sludge disposal site within the Lake Minnetonka watershed, which
site is identified as #29 in the City of Minnetrista , and
WHEREAS, said site #29 is located in an area of seasonally high
water tables adjacent to six mile creek which flows directly into Lake
Minnetonka, and
WHEREAS, said site #29 is. located in an area zoned and used for
productive commercial aggricultural purposes, and
WHEREAS, development and use of potential sludge site #29 would
• likely have direct adverse effect upon the water quality and ecology of
Lake Minnetonka , and
6aHEREAS , citizens and taxpayers in the Lake Minnetonka
watershed, and in the Twin Cities Metropolitan area, have spent untold
millions of dollars to install sewer int�rcepters to remove sewage
effluent from the watershed pursuant to the 1968 PCA mandate, which
investment would be wasted if the same sewage effluent were to be
piped out, processed, and then trucked back into the watershed as
sludge where it wculd once again pose an environmental threat to
the Lake.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the
City of Orono hereby proclaims its opposition to location and use of
proposed sludge disposal site #29 in the City of Minnetrista . Location
or use of any sewage sludge disposal site within the Lake Minnetonka
watershed, and particularly this site, would be contrary to the policies
and objectives of the City of Orono, the City of Minnetrista, the Minn�haha
Creek Watershed District & the Lake Minnetonka Conservation District.
Adopted by the City Council of the City of Orono on this 8th day of
June 1981 .
