RESOLUTION NO. 576
A RESOLUTION DESIGNATING CERTAIN AREAS OF THE
CITY OF ORONO FOR THE OPERATION OF SNOWMOBILES.
WHEREAS, Chapter 54 of the Municipal Code of the
City of Orono prohibits snowmobiling on certain areas unless
specifically authorized by Council resolution, and
WHEREAS, The Council has reviewed the recommendations
of staff and the requests by the public, and
WHEREAS, The Council desires to promote recreational
activities on areas in Orono where compatible with adjoining
property uses,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED:
• 1. That snowmobiling will be allowed subject to the
other provisionsof Chapter 54 on the portion of the Luce Line
Trail commencing at Stubb's Bay Road and terminating at the
western boundary of Orono until further notice.
2. That snowmobiling will be allowed subject to the
other provisions of Chapter 54 on a designated lane, to be
located on the eastern outside bank within the right of
way of Stubb's Bay Road commencing at the Luce Line Trail
and terminating at the northern shore of Stubb's Bay of
Lake Minnetonka, until further notice provided that:
(a) Snowmobiling will be allowed on this designated
lane between the hours of 7:00 A.M. and 11:00 P.M.
and any operation may be only on the eastern side
of the roadway and the snowmobile lane nearest the
lane of the roadway shall be in the same direction
as the highway traffic in the neare"st:`I:ane.
(b) That the staff shall clearly mark the boundaries
of the two snowmobile lanes and shall post, at all
intersections of a roadway and the snowmobile lanes,
adequate warning signs and stop signs.
(c) That if the staff deems it desirable to fence
the snowmobile lanes to insure control of the snow-
mobile traffic, the staff may use snow fence or other
adequate material to confine the snowmobiling to the
designated lanes.
The foregoing resolution was adopted by the City
Council of the City of Orono on February 25, 1975, by a
vote of three ayes and 0 nays.
