A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE DEVELOPMENT OF A � CONTINUOUS REGIONAL RECREATIONAL TRAIL ON THE DAKOTA RAIL CORRIDOR, AND APPROVING THE FINAL CONSTRUCTION PLANS FOR THE TRAIL WHEREAS, the City of Orono has consistently supported the preservation of the Dakota Rail corridor as a continuous public transportation corridor, and has strongly supported the development of a continuous regional recreational trail along the entire length of the Dakota Rail Comdor; and WHEREAS, Three Rivers Park District has developed a master plan for the development of a trail on the Dakota Rail Corridor that provides for a continuous regional recreational trail along the corridor; and • WHEREAS, a continuous trail will provide a much-needed safe alternative for pedestrian movement between the various Cities and amenities along the corridor; and , WHEREAS,Three Rivers park District has developed final construction plans for the trail and has requested the Cities along the trail to review and comment on the plans; and VVH�REAS,the City has reviewed the construction plans and finds the plans to be in conformance with the trai.l master plan; and WHEREAS, the construction plans are, overall, as anticipated by the City,with the exception of the design of the railing on the Tanager Lake Bridge, and two potential drainage issues; and WHEREAS,we are confident the construction details can be addressed to the City's satisfaction. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED, that the Orono City Council does hereby confirm its strong support for the preservation of the Dakota Rail Corridor as a continuous public transportation comdor and for the development of a continuous regional recreational trail on the Dakota Rail Corridor, and does also find that the construction plans for the trail are in conformance with the trail master plan and generally acceptable to the City. , • BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED,that the City is confident the construction details can be worked out to the City's satisfaction. . .
