HomeMy WebLinkAbout11-12-2024 City Council Minutes - work session VOA! •O Minutes City Council Work Session Tuesday,November 12, 2024, 5:00 PM es, ` City Council Chambers 12780 Kelley Parkway, Orono, MN 55356 ROLL CALL City Council members present: Mayor Dennis Walsh, City Council Members Alisa Benson, Richard Crosby, Maria Veach. Staff present: City Administrator Adam Edwards, Police Chief Correy Farniok, Fire Chief James VanEyll, and City Clerk Christine Lusian. PUBLIC SAFETY UPDATE Administrator Edwards introduced the work session topic of public safety goals and metrics to include police and fire and invited Chief Farniok to begin. Chief Farniok provided an update on calls, response, investigations, arrests, warrants, and community engagement (over fifty community engagements events per year) with Wednesday through Saturday afternoons and evenings being the department's busiest times. Chief VanEyll provided an update on number and types of incidents, calls, response, duties, mission, vision, values, and goals with Monday and Thursday evenings being the busiest times. Fire department responsibilities include fire code enforcement,plan reviews, burn and event permits, response data analysis and planning, business risk reduction(pre-plan), training, and community engagement(over fifteen community engagement events per year). Pre-plan work includes learning and documenting details about addresses so that responders know the facility and occupants and are prepared to respond properly for the unique situation at that property. Chief Farniok noted that he and Chief VanEyll meet regularly to collaborate on public safety initiatives,joint training, events, response, efficiency.
