During the permit review pei�.od, your sl�.oreline has Ueert observed ��d noted that previous rip rap exisls and
erosion is occuning. f-lowever, mowin.g fhe lawn to ihe water's edge is coni�zbuting to the erosion problem in
some areas. The removal of itative, deep-roated vegetalion along tlie shoreline to cr�aie the yard has left this
a,rea vulnerable to erosion d.ue to wa�re action. Turf. �zass lacks the deE�p root structure necessary to hold the
bank in plaee a.nd provides very low-quality habitat for beneficial insects, Uirds �.nd amphibidn.s.
Preferably, your shore area w�uld �be planted with nativc v��etatio.n along the shoreline and inland to
approximately 15 to 2U feet. Or, con.sider arn�oring only parlway ap ihe slopes and cappin� thc ripr�p with
nati�ve�v�getation. This would. soften the effect of. t.lie�-ock �u�d provide ille deep root strueture for bank stability.
If yot� apply I'ertilizer and pesticides lo your lawn, ��atural vegetativn bPtwe�n your yard and tlie shorc �t�vould
also providc some filtering of rain water zunoff fi-om your yard,prevenling excess P�rtili2cr and pcsticidcs from
reachin�thc lake.
