Dear Mr. Kane:
We were called to your Casco Point address this morning to
inspect some fence work apparently being installed by Richard
Lorge on ^t 3. The fence appears to be a 42" high wood board
fence. If so, it would conform to the requirements of Orono's
current zoning code section 31.433. This is true even where
It runs down the bank to the lake and where it is close to
your house on Lot 4.

The main purpose of this letter, however, is a problem which
we discovered while inspecting the fence work. Sometime since
this spring, a new set of wood stairs and a large wood deck
have been built on your lakeshore without obtaining any permits.
The building inspector recalls talking to you this spring. He
recalls stating that the stairs could be permitted but that
any deck within 75' of the shoreline was illeaal. The deck
as built actually overhangs the shoreline,
Mr. Kane, this deck construction is in violation of Orono Zoning
34.202 (enclosed) and State Building Code Section
301(a). Because of the zoning code violation, I must ask you
to have the entire deck structure removed within 30 days, not
later than November 6,1981. Failure to do so will result in
issuance of violation tags. The stairs may remain in place.
