A RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT FOR THE CRYSTAL BAY POST OFFICE WHEREAS, the Markville Post Office was established in 1889 by Peter Mark and the name was changed to Crystal Bay Post Office in 1906; and WHEREAS, in 1955 Orono Village was incorporated, encompassing all the remaining parts of the township including the settlements of Navarre, Crystal Bay, Orono, Stubbs Bay, and Bederwood; and WHEREAS, the current Post Office building was constructed around 1960 and was purchased by the City in 1979; and WHEREAS, the Crystal Bay Post Office has been a continued presence throughout Orono history and will remain indefinitely as the Crystal Bay Post Office; and WHEREAS, the planning goals in Orono include maintaining our local character and identity, preserving historically significant buildings and settings, and maintaining our rural small town vitality. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the City Council of the City of Orono does hereby confirm its support for the continued operation of the Crystal Bay Post Office.
