HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 7458 Navarre fire Station i�O CITY OF ORONO RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL 4�G` NO. 7458 ESHo A RESOLUTION REGARDING THE NAVARRE FIRE STATION SITE WHEREAS,the city of Orono ("Orono") owns the property where Fire Station 2 is located at 3770 Shoreline Drive in Orono; WHEREAS, Orono has made the decision to establish its own fire depaitiiient and move forward.with a phased approach to the establishment of the Orono Fire Department beginning in July of 2024; WHEREAS,the Navarre Fire Station(Station 2)was built for the sole purpose to service the citizens of Orono and the Station 2 call area; WHEREAS, Orono and Long Lake have been unable to negotiate a reasonable transition of Station 2 before the end of the fire services contract; WHEREAS, Orono explored options for an accessory structure on its property, including the engagement of an architect to prepare plans to ensure there was no hindrance of the operations of Station 2; WHEREAS,pursuant to an advertisement for bids for the new Public Works facility project bids were received, opened and tabulated according to State law, and the following bids were received complying with the advertisement: Contractor Base Bid Unit Price per CUY Project 1 Construction $ 1,257,000 $ 40.00 _ Terra General Contractors $ 1,354,400 $ 42.00 Versacon Inc. $ 1,265,000 $ 24.75 Rochon Corporation $ 1,147,000 $ 38.00 Met-Con Construction, Inc. $ 1,377,000 $ 14.00 Nor-Son Construction, LLC $ 1,194,233 $ 20.50 Morcon Construction CO., Inc. $ 1,254,000 $ 20.00 American Liberty Construction, Inc. $ 1,184,900 $ 21.00 Ebert $ 1,147,000 $ 22.50 Dering Peirson Group $ 1,194,000 $ 9.85 WHEREAS, all of the bids were well above the project Opinion of Probable Cost, $750,000; and; • CITY OF ORONO RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL '$tts*�, �G NO. 745 8 kEsxo'` WHEREAS, Orono has identified an alternative site that allows it to forego any further efforts to construct a facility on its own property next to Station 2; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: 1. Orono City Council herby rejects all of the bids provided; 2. Orono City Council hereby withdraws any efforts to explore options to construct a fire facility on its own property adjacent to Station 2 until after the end of the current fire service contract with Long Lake expires; 3. Orono City Council directs staff to prepare plans and solicit quotes for the conversion of the Navarre Water Plant Garage for use as a temporary fire facility; and, 4. Orono City Council directs staff to continue to attempt to work collaboratively with city of Long Lake staff, including the Long Lake Fire Department, concerning the end of the Orono's participation in the contract for fire protection with the cities of Long Lake and Medina.
