AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE ORONO CITY CODE TO PROVIDE FOR
COLUMBARIA IN RESIDENTIAL DISTRICTS R-lA, R-1B,LR-lA, LR-1B, LR-1C,
LR-1C-1,RR-lA, RR-1B, RR-1B-1
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ORONO, MINNESOTA ORDAINS:
SECTION l. The following language has been added to Section 78-1 (Definitions) of the
Orono City Code:
Sec. 78-1. Definitions.
Columbarium means a renositorv for the interment of cremated human remains within
cinerarv urns, including the burial of cremated human remains within cinerarv urns or inurnment
�ardens for the burial or scatterin�of cremated human remains. Columbaria are accessorv to
places of worshin, cemeteries or mausoleums.
SECTION 2. The following language has been added to Section 78-228 (Conditional Uses) of
the Orono City Code:
Sec. 78-228. Conditional uses.
(181 Columbaria,nrovided that all nortions of columbaria located at or below �round
shall be located at least five (5'1 feet from anv adiacent lot line and at least fiftv
(50'1 feet from nrincipal structures located on anv adiacent nronertv. whether such
pronertv is zoned for residential or non-residential use. All nortions of
columbaria located above �round shall meet the followin�standards:
a. Located at least ten(10'1 feet from nronertv boundaries.
b. Located at least fiftv(50'1 feet from nrincinal structures located on anv
adiacent nronertv. whether such nronertv is zoned for residential or non-
residential use.
c. Located at least ten(10'1 feet from the ed�e of the naved, traveled
roadwav.
d Shall not exceed ei�ht(8'1 feet in hei�ht includin� anv aunurtenances.
e. Direct views from all adioinine residential narcels shall be buffered bv
abnrot�riate means.

SECTION 3. The following language has been added to Section 78-253 (Conditional Uses) of
the Orono City Code:
Sec. 78-253. Conditional uses.
181 Columbaria.nrovided that all nortions of columbaria located at or below Qround
shall be located at least five (5'1 feet from anv adiacent lot line and at least fiftv
50'1 feet from nrincinal structures located on anv adiacent nronertv, whether such
pronertv is zoned for residential or non-residential use. All nortions of
columbaria located above Qround shall meet the followin� standards:
a. Located at least ten (10'1 feet from nronertv boundaries.
b. Located at least fiftv(50'1 feet from nrincinal structures located on anv
ad'acent uronertv, whether such nronertv is zoned for residential or non-
residential use.
c. Located at least ten (10'1 feet from the ed�e of the naved. traveled
roadwav.
d Shall not exceed ei�ht (8'1 feet in hei�ht includin� anv annurtenances.

the Orono City Code:

(50'1 feet from nrincinal structures located on anv adiacent nronertv, whether such

columbaria located above �round shall meet the followine standards:

b. Located at least fiftv(50'1 feet from brincinal structures located on anv
