May 11, 2010 Cinda Collins 650 Big Island Orono, MN 55413 Re: 650 Big Island Retaining Wall Review Dear Cinda: As requested, Civil Solutions Group (CSG)has conducted a review of the existing boulder wall located at 650 Big Island in Orono. The purpose of the review was too specifically to determine the long-term stability of the boulder wall near the staircase that exceeded 4' in height. The specific wall in question has been constructed to meet all minimum safety requirements as set forth in both AASHTO and NCMA. The wall has more than adequate depth for the given wall height. The wall is backfilled with sand, the proper fabric placed up the back of the�vall, and there is drain tile properly placed. The overall construction of the wall is outstanding, having very tight joint spacing and very aesthetically pleasing. It is my professional opinion that the wall meets all minimum engineering standards and will function safely as constructed. If you have any questions, please feel free to give me a call.
