CITYof ORONO Yost Office Box 66•CryidAd Bay, Minnesota 5,53Z39 Municipal Officer On the North Shore o/ hake Minnetonka Ski Tonka, Inc. c/o Richard Primus 432 Midland Bank Building Minneapolis, MN 55401 Re: Well on Ski Tonka property P.I.N.S. f31-118-23-33-0004 Dear Mr. Primus: It has been brought to our attention by a local well driller that the existing 12" well on the Ski -Tonka property has not been properly abandoned, nor does it meet current standards for continued use without certain upgrading measures. I am aware that various development plans have been proposed for this property over the last few years. However, since there are no immediate plans apparent to develop the site using this well as a private or community water supply, we must require certain measures at this time to eliminate the potential for groundwater contamination posed by this well. If you plan to permanently abandon this well, it must be properly sealed and filled with concrete or cement grout. This must be performed by a licensed well -driller. If you plan to again use this well at a future date, it must be temporarily sealed upon approval of the State Health Department. In addition, the well casing would have to be extended above the ground surface, and the existing well pit filled in. (Well pits are no longer allowed because surface water may collect in the pit and enter the well, thereby acting as a source of agtiifer contamination). I refer you to Mr. James Nye, Minnesota Health Department Ground Water Quality Control Unit, 623-5339, if you have questions regarding this matter. I would appreciate your prompt response, and will be happy to a ist you in any way I can. Sincerely, Michael P.
