Subject: 1340 Baldur Park Road, Orono
I received a call from a person who said his girl friend's
sewer was backing up. He first talked to Jack Brinkhaus asking
if there were any problems with sewer in the area. Jack told him
it was not connected to sewer and gave the call to me. I told
the person I would pull the card and meet him on site. I arrived
on site and met a man and woman. I told them we have no record
of the septic system but our records presumed there are 2
systems. The woman told me that was probably the case because
the house was only a basement house at one time. I began to
probe probable areas but could not find any tanks. The woman
asked why the house was not hooked to sewer. I told her I was
unclear on the history but it was probably because the owners
resisted. She then told me her mother was the owner. During the
course of the discussion we presumed the basement was on one
system and when the 2nd floor was constructed the 2nd system was
added for the plumbing for that floor. Therefore, I suggested
they use the plumbing upstairs only until the problem was taken
care of. The boy friend then stated "ya, at least the guys
renting the upstairs can use their plumbing". I asked how much
plumbing there was in the basement and he said "Oh, there is a
whole apartment down there".
We continued to search for drainfield and tanks but were
unsuccessful. He asked for suggestions. I said hook up to
sewer. I also suggested calling the local septic tank pumpers
and ask if they have ever been to the property to pump or if' they
have any means of finding the tanks.
