M►nnrota 553x! • Mank4W onkm On the North Shure o/ Lake Minnetonka May 14, 1986 Field Inspector, Lyle Oman, looked at your septic system today and did not find any evidence of seepage to the surface. He was able to locate only one tank, and it appeared to be cleat of solids - he surmised that it might be the second tank, and the first tank might be closer to the house. John, you mentioned that you had tele tank pumped a few years ago - is the tank that was pumped the same one shown in Lyle's sketch? BecausL there is no evidence at this time of any current or intermittent surface discharge, the City codes do not require any upgrading of the system at this time. However, you should be aware that from the minimal information we have to go on, the system seems quite substandard. We don't have any idea how much drainfield exists, and we can only surmise that the system will continue to function adequately for the time being under similar water use conditions as are present now. The system might continue to function for any number of years for 1 or 2 persons, but might have problems in adequately serving a larger household. The fact that in 1982 it was discharging to the surface and now is not, may indicate that frugal water use habits and regular maintenance might have u significant beneficial affect on the system. John, I'm only bringing up these iacts because, in at least 2 recent situations in Orono, systems that we inspected which were deemed "substandard yet apparently functional" (based on only minimal available information about the system) later failed. Your buyer should be made aware that. the system he is getting is not new, is not "state-of-the-art", and that so little information about it is known tEat we can't make a good estimate of how it will function in the future.
