Ms. Turner,
I represent a property owner on Big Island named Richard Hanson. His property is located at
the southwest end of the peninsula on which Crown Point is located. The property was crossed by the
platted street Massasolt Avenue, which was never built. My question is whether Massasolt Avenue was
ever vacated toward its western end, for the last stretch before it abutted the platted street
Metacomet? I have seen some vacation related documentation but wish to confirm whether that process
was ever completed.

Dear Mr. Hanson:
The City of Orono has been requested to provide a street
address numbering system for Big Island properties. Each
property has been assigned a consecutive number starting at Big
Island Veterans' Camp and going south around the Island. These
numbers will be kept on file at the City offices and may be used
for identification and emergency purposes. The attached map
indicates the new address assignment (i.e. 100 - address; ( 03 ) -
property identification number). All appropriate entities will
be notified of this assignment.
We are asking property owners to post their new address. It
should be posted at the end of your dock so those approaching the
island may easily identify properties. However, if this is not
feasible, please post somewhere near the entrance (from the
lakeside) to the property.
Your new address for property which you own on Big Island,
Oronv is as follows:

Please be advised that the postal service will not be
delivering mail to the Island, and you should still retain and
use your post office box for mail delivery.

Mr. Hanson is requesting the above variances to build a new hane to replace
the �e that was recently completely destroyed hy fire an Got F. This pro-
pasal wat2d be aa� improvetr�nt to the pr�vious situatian in that the new
locatian is further from the lakeshore.
There should be saane concern of precedence an Big Island, hawever. Mr.
Hansan aiso owns lots G and 3 which cansist of an additional 17,771 sQ. ft.
We could also consider vacating the street if access to other properties
wau2d not be obstructed. The streets cansist of an area of arproximat�ly
9,000 sq. ft. If all this area were canbined, there wvuld be a total of
appro�cimately 55,000 sq. ft. (87,120 sq. ft. required). M�e could, hvwever,
maintain the required 75' setback from the shoreline. These are only sug-
gestions since I have never been o� the island. A site inspection will be
netessary before determining a reasonable solution.
The builder did indicate that the existing drain field for the septic system
is presently located in the street area.
