It has increased from $ 366,000. in 1998 to $ 416,700. in 1999. After subtracting $ 5,700. for new improvements (a work shed), that is an increase of over 11%. This is unreasonable considering the current national rate of inflation is 1.61% and forcasted to remain between 1.5% and 2.5% for 1999. As a matter of fact, 1.5 to 2.5% might be generous considering: 1) The poor condition of Orono city roads. 2) The fact that we are required to maintain a private road leading to our driveway. 3) Lack of city sewer and water. Please review this request and notify us with a valuation that reflects a realistic market value for this property. Brennan, Jr. 1111 Tamarack Property ID No. 26118-23-31-0007 1998 Valuation $195,300.00 1999 Valuation $211,000.00 Dear Members of the Board of Review: When I received my valuation increase for 1999 I contacted the Assessor’s Office. 1 was advised by Kim Jensen that they would do a review and respond. I wrote a letter on March 24, 1999 requesting a review. Not receiving a response to my telephone conference with Kim Jensen or my March 24, 1999 correspondence, I called Tom in the Assessor’s Office on this date. I was advised that the Assessor’s Office felt the valuation of $211,000 was correct. 1 asked Tom for comparable sales of homes w ithout basements and I was advised that there were none. Tom stated that they would probably have to go outside of Orono to find a comparable property. I believe that the fact that this home lacks a basement detracts from the market value; therefore, the Assessor’s Office cannot justify an 8% increase in this property’s value for 1999. I feel the value is closer to $200,000 rather than $211,000. I cannot be in attendance this evening; therefore, thank you for considering my request for a reevaluation. Very truly yours, Sidney L.
