Re: Percolation Test -
Orono
dear Mr. Burger:
On September 11 and 12, 1974, percolation tests were run
on your property as shown on the enclosed sketch map.
Tests consisted of one soils boring to eight feet in
depth and six test holes 24 to 36 inches in depth. Soils
encountered were topsoil, silty clay, clay and clay till.
No water waF observed. A three-bedroom house is proposed.
Percolation rates in the primary drain field area are ten
minutes per inch. At this rate, the drain field area
required is 500 square feet. At the alternate drain field
site the average rate was 16 minutes per inch requiring a
drain field area of 600 square feet. Both areas range in
altitude from two to six feet below the proposed house site.
The adjacent wetlands lies approxir^ately ten feet below the
lowest point of each drain field site.
It is recommended that a 400 gallon capacity dosing chanber,
with siphon, be installed between the septic tanks and the
distribution box. It is further recommended that the drain
field, if installed at the primary site, consist of four,
100 -foot lines spaced seven feet apart and with two -foot
trench bottom widths. All installations should comply
with the Orono Individual Sewage Disposal System Code of
`tininur; Standards.
The proposed water well location, shown on the sketch, would
be acceptable for either drain field location.

The stated percolation tate is an average of rates at t'tie
locatians shown and no guarantee is implied or expressed
that these conditions exist for the entire proposed drain
field area.

Dear Mr. McCombs:
As you requested. we have re-examined the subject site
with regard to elevations. The proposed primary drain
field. lying northeast of the house site and along the
east property line, has its upper (south) end approxi-
mately five feet below the ground level at the proposed
house. The lower (north) end of the drain field is &p -
proximately ten feet below the upper end. or approximately
15 feet below the ground level at the house site.
This amount of relief indicates a serial -type construc-
tion for the drain field. General drain field dimensions
should be 30' x 100' with drain tiles running east -west
in 30 -foot lengths, seven feet apart.
If further data is reavired, please advise.
Sincerely.
