Mr. Ron Sheldon

Dc“r Ron:
At your request vo have ccnducted a prelir.inary investigation of
soil conditions on Lot 9, Block 1, STIELOW'S ADDITIOU, Hennepin
County, Minnesota. The property is located at 3223 Bayside Road
in Orono, Minnesota. Wo understand that you are conside-ring the
construction of a single fanily dwelling of wood franc
construction with a masonry foundation. The investigation
consisted of exploratory soil borings to aid in identifying soil
and water conditions. The borings were taken at the locations
indicated on the enclosed layout. Surface elevations are based on
the Morth American Datum.
I^rTESTIGATION METHODS:
A total of 4 tost borings as shown on the attached layout were
taken on May 31, 1985 with a truck mounted auger drill. Mineral
soils encountered in the borings were texturally classified with
the U.s. Bureau of Chemistry and Soils Classification System. A
copy of that chart is attached. The borings wore probed
immediately after completion for the presence of ground water.
RESULTS:
BORING LOG SHEETS indicating the depth and identification of the
various soil strata and water level information are attached. At
the borings typically encountered a foot of topsoil
a firm, candy, brown clay. The borings wore dry at
the surface
underlain by
completion.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
The sandy brown clay at proposed footing level is suitable for the
support of the single family dwelling that is contemplated. All
topsoil should be removed from under the garage slab and all
footings should be extended through any topsoil. Due to the
nature of clay soils, careful provision for dampproofing and drain
tiling should be made.
Of necessity, the area of the borings in relation to the area of
the site and the depth of the borings are limited. Suggestions
and recommendations of this report are opinions based on data
obtained from the borings.
If wo may be of further assistance in evaluating this data, kindly
contact U3 at your convenience.
Sincerely,
ADVANCE SURVEYIllC & ENGINEERING CO.
