RE: Additional Soils & Septic System Location Data for
Stielow Subdivision - 565 Leaf Street
A nunber of lots in this subdivision were retested to find more
suitable locations and soils for on-site sewage treatment systems.
Lot 1 - The problem on this lot is a very high water table.
Hr. Stielow*s engineering firm has proposed an innovative mound/
fill type system utilizing draintile to lower the water table.
Slopes on the drainfield site are greater than allowable and
would be remedied by terracing. This system must have approval
of the city engineer prior to issuance of a building permit.
Lot 4 - Revised percolation rate 22 min./inch; 34 min./inch at
secondary site. Seasonal water table at 4 to 5 feet. A system
of very shallow trenches or a mound would be required for this
lot.
Lot 9 - Revised percolation rate 15 min./inch; 78 min./inch at
secondary site. Water table at 3 to 5 feet. Very shallow trenches
would be allowable on the primary site. The secondary site would
a mound. _ _ _ _ _ _
Lot 11 - Revised percolation rate 15 min./inch; 44 min./inch at
secondary site. Seasonal water table at 2% ft. A mound system
would be required for both sites because of high water table.
"SUAiitaLy: With the exception of Lot 1, all lots in the proposed
subdivision appear to have suitable soils and locations for on-site
sewage treatment. Lot 1 will require some landscaping and de
watering for the proposed mound/fill system to work effectively.
This should be carefully reviewed by the city engineer.

FROM: Mike Gaffron, Septic System Inspector
DATE; May 16, 1978
SUBJECT; Septic Systems - Soil Testing, Stielow Subdivision
A review of the soil testing information submitted by Hickock
and Associates for the Stielow Subdivision leads me to the
following conclusions;
I I Lot 1 - Percolation rate 11 min,/inch; 5 min,/inch at secondary
site; water table at 2-4 feet; mottled below 3 feet. Water table
is too high for a standard system. Slopes of 6-12% on the primary
site are too steep for a mound system. Possibilities for this
lot are: 1) a mound system in the secondary drainfield area;
2) holding tanks; or 3) declare the lot as unbuildable,
2. I Lot 2 - Percolation rate 24 min,/inch; 23 min,/inch at secondary
* site; water table at 3-7 feet. Primary site is near or within
existing drainfield. Slopes of 0-6%, Due to high water table,
a mound system or shallow trenches would be necessary,
i 2-Lot 3 - Percolation rate 83 min,/inch; 83 min,/inch at*secondary
site; water table at 3-7 feet; slopes of 6-12%, High water table
indicates standard trenches will not be acceptable (soil mottling
at 5 ft,, 3 ft,, and 1 ft. indicate a high seasonal water table).
Slopes are too steep for a mound system, and perc rates are too
slow for shallow trenches. I believe it may be possible to install
a mound to the southeast of proposed drainfields where the slope
is more level. Additional testing would be necessary.
1/ 4 - Percolation rate 100 min./inch; 33 min./inch at secondary
* site. The lot is presently being retested to find a more suitable
site.
^ Ubot 5 - Percolation rate 27 min./inch; 53 min./inch at secondary
* site. Water table at 8 ft. Soil mottling below 6 ft., slopes
4-12%. A standard system could be installed on this lot.
f ^iLot 6 - Percolation rate 67 min,/inch; 30 min./inch at secondary
^ site. Water table at 3.5 - 8 ft. Mottling at 3.5 ft. A mound
system would be necessary on this lot due to high water table and
slow perc rate. ^

Septic Systems - Soil Testing
Page 2
^ Lot 7 - Percolation rate 63 rain,/inch; 45 rain./inch at secondary
site. Water table at 4.5 - 7.5 ft. An existing system is located
in generally the sarae area. If a new system became necessary the
site would be marginal for standard trenches and would possibly
require a mound system or shallow trenches.
^ ^ Lot 8 - Percolation rate 40 min./inch; 25 min,/inch at secondary
site. Water table at 8 ft. Mottling indicates seasonal water
table below 2-1/2 ft. Slopes less than 12%, This lot may require
shallow trenches due to high seasonal water table.
Q ^^Lot 9 - Percolation rate 59 rain,/inch; 50 min./inch at secondary
' ^^site. Water table at 2.5 - 4,0 ft. The lot is being retested
to find a more suitable site.
Lot 10 - Percolation rate 8.7 min./inch; 14 min,/inch at secondary
site. Water table at 3 - 8 ft. Itottling at 2-1/2 feet. Shallow
enches or a mound would be recommended for this lot.
Lot 11 - Percolation rate 111 min./inch; 6.8 min./inch at secondary
site. Water table is at 2.5 - 3.5 feet. The lot is being retested
to find a more suitable site.
Lot 12 - Percolation rate 8.3 rain./inch; 9.9 min./inch’at secondary
site. Water table below 8 ft. on primary site. Some mottling
below 3 ft. Standard trenches would be allowed on this lot,
I 13 - Percolation rate 15 min./inch; 36 min./inch at alternate
/ ^ 'site. Water table below 8 ft. Standard trenches would be allowed.
An existing drainfield is located somewhere to the south of the main
church building.
Summary:
Standard systems could be installed on Lots 5,
Shallow trenches or a mound would be needed on
