Dear Jean:
Thank you for your letter of September 10th in reply to
mine of an earlier date requesting information as to
procedures necessary towards obtaining a variant to establish
or confirm ^^cts k/R/l/U as buildable property, Bou^t
in 1966 as to A^ and added to by acquisition of S/l/U in
1968 when 1 acre minimums were ruling I*ve spent a lot of
money in developing this largost-ln-the-area-for-milos-around
Lakeshore lot as buildable property and I must resent any local
effort to destroy its value when it meats all the objectives
specified in the 1975 ordinance. Land encompassed is 2 acres
physically and 1,4 buildable area by title.
This is particularly a warm issue to me alter paying first
rate taxes 55^ hi^er on an evaluation agreed on as fair in
a meeting vith the assessor (Hennepin County) in the spring
of 1982, It vas also agreed that ny problem was and is with
the Orono Planning Commission,
I point out that a refusal of a variant if the”unrea1 ifen"
and not the request for same.
A basis for a rejection of today as a "SUBSTANDARD buildable lot
with "common ownership^to my adjoining homestead is highly
discriminatory and the advice given could be possibly illegal
since I paid cash for these properties with no encumbrances
while my adjoining Homestead carries a lien on it; a mortgage
hold by First National Bank of Wayzata to render it more
saleable, Expropirlatlon is not only hl^ handed but impossible.
The citizenry is compelled to scrutinize local administration
which can become over-zealous and oppressive unless they relate
to the changed econony which now prevails and makes 1975
inflated standards "Pio-ln-the-Sky, And as we go to the polls
tomorrow these theu^ts will be rampant. May be thel^
will bo some changes.,and apparently your commission realizes
that some lifting of restrictions are in order or mlfhb be
considered. My taxes wore paid under protest with accompaning
explanation. We do thank our city administrators for a lot
of work in an exacting climate..and we will talk..and wait.
