IKTROOUCTION
This report concerns the recent soil observations and testing services we performed for
the addition to the Weihe residence at 1376 Balder Park Road in Orono. Minnesota. This
work was requested by Mr Blair George of Ideal Construction on November 9, 1988. The
scope of our work was as follows:
1. Observe the soils exposed in the perimeter footing excavation for the
addition.
2. Perform shallow hand auger borings to further explore localized subsurface
soil conditions.
3. Provide judgments regarding the suitability of the soils observed within
the excavations for support of the anticipated footing loads.
COMaUSIOMS
Based on our visual observations and hand auger borings# it is our opinion that naturally
occurring sandy lean clay to clayey sand and silty sand soils were present in the
majority of the footing excavation. These natural soils were judged suitable for support
of the proposed loadings.
Approximately 8’ west of the southeast addition corner# and at the southwest adiiiticn
corner# two small areas of disturlec) soils were encountered. These disturbed soils were
associated with trench backfill from a previous utility lines servicing the existing
house. At the southwest corner# a small grade beam will be constructed to span over the
utility trench. At the location 8» west of the southeast addition corner# we recommended
an additional 2’ of soils be subcut to allow the new footing to step underneath the
existing sewer pipe In this area.
The above recommendations were verbally given to Blair George at the time of our visit
and he Indicated he would follow our recommendations.
