This letter is to inform you that building permits are required for the construction of decks in the City of Orono, and no constuction is a 11 owed within 7 5' of the 1 ake. Your options are to remove the deck or apply for a variance to the zoning code. In granting a variance , the City Council considers hardships. I am at a loss as to what your hardships would be. The deck must be removed or a completed variance application received before February 18, 1991. If you have any questions or if you have a problem meeting this deadline, please feel free to contact me at my of f i ce. I had a previous ' engagement. As Bruce discussed with you, the City does not al low construction within 75' of the lake. The only exception is a stairway that conforms to DNR regulations (4' wide with 4' wide landings ) . Please submit a building permit application, building plans and a survey showing the location of the proposed stairway before you proceed with construction.
