Re: 120 & 140 Big Island
Dear Mr. Uran:
It has come to the attention of the City that you have recently moved earth from the lakeshore and
deposited it in a wetland at 120 Big Island. It has also come to the City's attention that you have
various items stored around the properties. The above are in violation of the following ordinances:
Grading and filling without permit - violation of Section 10.56, Subdivision 10.
• Grading and filling within 75' of the lake - violation of Section 10.56, Subdivision 16 J(2)
• Filling in wetland - violation of Section 10.55, Subdivision 8.
Exterior storage of materials -violation of Section10.60, Subdivision 13 and Section 9.55.
This letter is to notify you that the City of Orono takes protection of the lakeshore and wetlands very
seriously. Therefore the City must require you to remove the fill from the wetland and replace it at
the lakeshore. Erosion control must be in place as soon as possible to prevent soil from entering the
lake and wetland. The property also must be cleaned up and the exterior storage eliminated. You
should be aware that the City prohibits burying of any items ar constniction debris(Section 12.09).
The City will withhold legal action at this time; however, if the property is not brought into
compliance before January 5, 2000, the City will issue citations and a court appearance will be
required.

Dear Mr. Oman:
This is in response to the letter that you sent us December 16, regarding our property, 120
& 140 Big Island.
As far as the grading and filling is concerned-we oriainally moved the dirt because of a
ridge that was from the ice in the spring of 1999. We will move it back to the way it was,
but we thought maybe we should wait until spring, when the ground thaws.
The exterior storage of materials was also mentioned in your letter. We have an excess
amount of pipe and other materials around our cabin. We are in the process of drilling a
well at 140 Big Island, and it is taking longer than we expected. Jack injured his
shoulder, and had an operation this summer, and he has not recovered like he thought he
would. He will also be drilling 2 more wells on Big Island as soon as he finishes ours, so
that is why we have an excess amount of pipe and materials.
We are normally fairly neat property owners. We will make every effort to attend to the
matters that you stated in the letter.
Thank for yqur ti
