1. Purpose. To appoint Todd Geske, Metro West Inspection Services as interim Building Official.
2. Background. Minnesota Statutes Section 326B.133 requires a city to designate a building
official to administer the code. Without that person designated by the City Council, the City’s
contracting inspecting s ervice does not have the authority to complete its’ contract, and increases
the liability of the city.
Mr. Geske is qualified and certified to be a building official, which will allow inspections to
resume. Mr. Geske will not complete Roger’s plan review or zoning inspection duties. Metro
West Inspection services will charge $100.00 per hour for Building Official services provided by
Mr. Geske.
Given the reduction in staffing hours available, plan reviews, and inspections will be delayed for
the coming weeks.
3. Staff Recommendation. Staff recommends the Council adopt the resolution.
COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED
City Council should review the approval resolution and adopt or amend.

A RESOLUTION
DESIGNATING INTERIM BUILDING OFFICIAL
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of Orono,
Minnesota hereby designates Todd Geske, as interim Building Official as required by Section
326B.133 of Minnesota Statutes.
ADOPTED by the Orono City Council on this 16th day of October, 2020.
