Re: Susan Sumey Shoreline Restoration
File No. 139-1807
Dear Jeanne,
We have inspected the recently constructed shoreline repair on the Sumey property at
1330 Cherry Place in Section 8 and found it to be unsatisfactory. The repair was
constructed with clay fill reinforced with geogrid which was anchored to the existing
slope with duckbill anchors. The information we had reviewed previously (including the
plans, all written correspondence and several telephone conversations with the applicant
and Stephan Spartz of Landview Landscaping) indicated that the fill soil would be a
granular material. We stated in our letter dated April 6, 1993, that: "The fill soil should
be a granular material. Clay soil is not recommended for this type of application."
Granular fill has more structural value when wet conditions prevail. The surface of the
granular fill could be protected from erosion with a clay layer or a permanent turf
restoration product.
The slope reinforcement should not be approved by the City without a geotechnical
engineering design and approval.
Please contact me at this office if you have any questions regarding this matter.
Yours very truly,
BONESTROO, ROSENE, ANDERLIK & ASSOCIATES, INC.
