INSPECTIONS: All plumbing installations must be tested and inspected in accordance with the requirements of the Minnesota Plumbing Code.No plumbing work may be covered prior to inspection.The contractor/installer must obtain all required inspection permits from the city of Orono Building Official. REQUIREMENT(S): 1. All plumbing shall be installed in accordance with the 2015 Minnesota Plumbing Code(see Minnesota Rules,Chapter 4714). 2. Verify that the existing water supply and waste systems are sized to accommodate the added fixtures(see Minnesota Rules,Chapter 4714,Sections 610.7 through 610.12 and 703.0). 3. Changes in direction in drainage piping must be made by appropriate use of wyes and bends(see Minnesota Rules,Chapter 4714, Section 706.0). Sanitary tees are not allowed where the direction of flow changes from either vertical to horizontal or horizontal to horizontal. 4. All sanitary drainage pipe within the building must be installed with a uniform slope of at least 1/4-inch per foot(see Minnesota Rules,Chapter 4714, Section 708.1). Where the conditions preclude this slope,pipes 4- inch and larger may be sloped at'/8-inch per foot if approved by the administrative authority,in accordance with Table 703.2. 5. Hose thread water outlets must be provided with ASSE 1052 non-removable hose bibb-type backflow preventers,ASSE 1011 non-removable hose bibb type vacuum breakers,or ASSE 1001 atmospheric vacuum breakers installed at least 6 inches above the highest point of usage on the discharge side of the last control valve(see Minnesota Rules,Chapter 4714, Sections 603.5.7 and 301.1.2). 6. Each horizontal drain branch shall be provided with a cleanout at its upper terminal(see Minnesota Rules, Chapter 4714,Section 707.4).A cleanout may be omitted if the drain branch line is less than five feet, unless the drain serves sinks or urinals.A cleanout must be provided for each total change of direction exceeding 135 degrees in any horizontal drainage line. 8. Potable water pipes and fittings with lead content must not exceed 0.25 percent lead in the wetted surface material(see Minnesota Rules,Chapter 4714,Section 604.11).Solder and flux for potable water systems shall contain less than 0.2 percent lead.Joints must include non-corrosive non-toxic paste-type flux complying with ASTM B813(see Minnesota Rules,Chapter 4714,Section 605.3.4). 9. Pipe hangers and supports shall comply with Minnesota Rules,Chapter 4714, Section 313.0,Table 313.1, and the applicable installation standard. NOTE(S): 1. The scope of this project consists of remodeling an existing building.The plumbing installation includes a hose bibb,two floor drains,a urinal,two tank type water closets,and two lavatories. 2. The building is served by existing municipal sewer and water services. 3. The plans and specifications were prepared by a licensed plumber.Only the plumber who has prepared the plans may use the plans for construction.If another plumber is contracted to install the plumbing,they must submit their own plans and specifications for the project. Authorization for installation may be withdrawn not undertaken within one year.Additional recommendations or requirements may be made if changed conditions or additional information make improvements necessary. Test for leaks and defects in new piping. If testing is performed in segments,submit separate reports for each test. b. Leave uncovered and unconcealed new drainage and vent piping until it has been tested and approved. c. Rough-in Plumbing Test Procedure: Test drainage and vent piping except outside leaders on completion of roughing-in. Close openings in piping system and subject to 5 psi air test for 15 minutes. Inspect joints for leaks. d. Finished Plumbing Test Procedure: After plumbing fixtures have been set and traps filled with water,test connections and prove they are gastight and watertight. Plug vent stack openings on roof and building drains where they leave building. Introduce air into piping system equal to pressure of 1-inch wg. Use U-tube or manometer inserted in trap of water closet to measure this pressure. Air pressure must remain constant without introducing additional air throughout period inspection. Inspect plumbing fixture connections for gas and water leaks. e. Repair leaks and defects with new materials and retest piping,or portion thereof,until satisfactory results are obtained. f. Cap and subject piping to static water pressure of 50 psig above operating pressure,without exceeding pressure rating on piping system materials. Isolate test source and allow it to stand for 4 hours. e. Repair leaks and defects with new materials and retest piping until satisfactory results are obtained. f. Prepare reports for tests and for corrective action required. Pipe Disinfection Procedure a. Purge new piping. b. Use purging and disinfecting procedures prescribed by authorities having jurisdiction; if methods are not prescribed, use procedures described in either AWWA C651 or AWWA C652 or follow procedures described below: 1. Flush piping system with clean,potable water until dirty water does not appear at outlets. 2. Fill system or part thereof with water/chlorine solution with at least 50 ppm of chlorine. Isolate and allow to stand for 24 hours. Or Fill system or part thereof with water/chlorine solution with at least 200 ppm of chlorine. Isolate and allow to stand for 3 hours. 3. Flush system with clean,potable water until no chlorine is in water coming from system after the standing time. 4. Repeat procedures if biological examination shows contamination. 5. Submit water samples in sterile bottles to authority having jurisdiction. c. Prepare and submit reports of purging and disinfection activities.
