CITY OF ORONO MEMORANDUM
DATE: March 9, 2020
TO: Mayor Walsh, City Council members
FROM: Jeremy Barnhart, AICP, Community Development Director
RE: Planning Commission Vacancy update
At the end of March, John Thiesse will have served the last of his three, three year term. City Code does
not include a provision for the Council to reappoint Commission members beyond the third term.
Advertisements for filling the vacancy have been posted on the website and Facebook. The city has
received two applications, Scott Kirchner and David Peterson.
Staff anticipates the applicants will be reviewed by the Council via interview at their workshop on March
9th, to be appointed that night.
Section 74-2 of the City Code prescribes membership of the Commission, with the intent to diversify
perspectives between lake and non-lake, and urban (zoning less than 2 acres) and rural (zoning more than
2 acres) residents. The terms are intended to be staggered.
The current roster is:
Commissioner Term
