We agree to remove the large oak tree adjacent to our newly extended drainfield should
said tree die, and to do so in a manner that does not damage the drainfield. We further
agree to cover all costs of the removal.

Dear Dr. McGuuire:
The drainfield for your septic system at 315 Woodhill Ave. must be extended as part of the house
remodeling. The drainfield addition must extend over the base of a large oak tree. This tree in our
experience would be expected to die within a few years of the drainfield addition due to grade being
raised between two to three feet around the base of the tree. Therefore, the City strongly recommends
that the tree be removed now. This would avoid the possibility that the tree could become weak and
fall down in a storm causing considerable damage to the drainfield. Removal of the tree will also be
more expensive after the system surrounds the base of the tree and it is more likely that the system
could be further damaged during the removal of the tree.
It is my understanding that you wish to avoid cutting down this tree until it does die. The City is
willing to allow you to do this if you agree to remove the tree when it dies in a manner which does
not damage the drainfield. You must also agree that any damage to the drainfield caused by the tree
removal will be your obligation. Please provide the City with a letter agreeing to the conditions noted
in this letter. The City will not issue a certificate of occupancy for the house remodeling until this
issue is resolved.
