You may apply for mechanical permits by mail or in person at the City offices. Applications will be reviewed and a permit will be issued within 2 working days. 2. Permit cards will be sent by return mail after a review is completed. PERMITS ARE NOT VALID UNTIL YOU RECEIVE A PERMIT. WORK MUST NOT BEGIN UNTIL THE PERMIT CARD IS POSTED ON THE JOB SITE. 3. Mechanical Designs - Complete calculations, details and specifications are required for each heating, ventilation, humidification-dehumidification, and air conditioning installation including heat loss/heat gain calculation, design temperatures, equipment ratings and identification as to type, manufacturer and model. Data shall be presented on form provided. Identification of and specifications for water heating equipment shall also be provided. 4. When any new construction or remodeling is involved, a separate building permit must be obtained. 5. All work must be done in accordance with the Uniform Mechanical Code/State Building Code requirements. 6. All work must be inspected (rough-in and final). Call 473-7357. 24-hour notice required. 7. The following are reference notes from the Minnesota Uniform Fire Code which contain specific instructions applicable to this project . These requirements must be complied with. 1 . The installation must be approved by the local fire chief . M.R. 7510 .3440 Subp. 5 Sec. 79 . 903 (a) When approved by the chief, the dispensing of Class I and Class II liquids from a fuel dispensing system supplied by exterior aboveground tanks may be permitted . . . 2 . Unless the tank is listed as meeting the requirements for secondary containment, the tank must be provided with a dike. 3 . The tank system must be listed for aboveground use . M.R. 7510 .3440 Subp. 5 Sec. 79 .903 (a) 2 : The tank system shall be listed as meeting UL 2085 requirements or approved for such aboveground use . 4 . Tanks must be provided with lightning protection. M.R. 7510 .3440 Subp. 5 Sec. 79 . 903 (a) 10 : Tanks shall be provided with lightning protection as specified in National Fire Protection Association Standard 78, Lightning Protection Code, 1989 . 5 . Safety rules and signs . Sec. 79 .903 (d) : Conspicuous signs prohibiting smoking, prohibiting dispensing into unapproved containers, and requiring vehicle motors to be stopped during fueling operations shall be posted within sight of each customer being served. 6 . The location and size of the required fire extinguisher shall be shown on the plot plan. Sec. 79 . 908 A fire extinguisher with a minimum rating of 2A2OBC shall 1 Aboveground Dispensing of Flammable/Combustible Liquids be provided and located such that it is not more than 75 feet from any pump, dispenser or fill-pipe opening. 7 . Unsupervised Dispensing. Sec. 79 . 903 (f) 1 and 2 : The dispensing of Class I and Class II liquids into the fuel tank of a vehicle or into a container shall be under the supervision of a qualified attendant at all times . EXCEPTION: Unsupervised dispensing complying with Section 79 . 903 (f) 2 . A. The owner or operator shall provide and be accountable for: (i) . At least daily site visits, (ii) . Regular equipment inspection and maintenance, (iii) . Conspicuously posting instructions for safe operation of dispensing equipment, and (iv) . Posting the phone number of the owner or operator, B. A sign, in addition to that required in Section 79 . 903 (d) , shall be posted in a conspicuous location stating: IN CASE OF FIRE OR SPILL 1 . Use emergency pump shutoff ! 2 . Report the accident ! Fire Department No. Facility address C. Dispensing equipment shall comply with one of the following: (i) . The amount of fuel being dispensed is limited in quantity by a preprogrammed card, (ii) . Dispensing devices shall be programmed or set to limit uninterrupted fuel delivery to 25 gallons and require a manual action to resume continued delivery, 2 Aboveground Dispensing of Flammable/Combustible Liquids (iii) . Product delivery hoses are equipped with a listed emergency breakaway device designed to retain liquid on both sides of the breakaway point . Such devices shall be installed and maintained in accordance with manufacturer' s instruction. D. During hours of operation, the system' s site shall be provided with a fire-alarm transmitting device . A telephone not requiring a coin to operate is acceptable . 3
