SUBMITTER(S): Plymouth Plumbing, Inc., 12270 43rd Street NE, St. Michael, Minnesota 55376 Plans Dated: August 6,2007 Date Received: October 9, 2007 Date Reviewed: October 24,2007 SCOPE: This review is limited to the design of this particular project only insofar as the provisions of the Minnesota Plumbing Code,as amended,apply, and does not cover the water supply or sewerage system to which this plumbing system is connected. The review is based upon the supposition that the data on which the design is based are correct, and that necessary legal authority has been obtained to construct the project. The responsibility for the design of structural features and the efficiency of equipment must be taken by the project designer. Approval is contingent upon satisfactory disposition of any requirements included in this report. Special care should be taken to insure that the material and installation of the plumbing system are in accordance with the provisions of the Minnesota Plumbing Code. A copy of the approved plans and specifications should be retained at the project location for future reference. Enclosed is a copy of the report and transmittal letter to be forwarded to the project owner. INSPECTIONS: All plumbing installations must be tested and inspected in accordance with the requirements of the Minnesota Plumbing Code. As specified in Minnesota Rules,part 4715.2830,no plumbing work may be covered prior to completing the required tests and inspections. Provisions must be made for applying an air test. at the time of the roughing-in inspection as outlined in Minnesota Rules,part 4715.2820, subpart 2, of the code. A manometer test,as specified in Minnesota Rules,part 4715.2820, subpart 3, is required at the time of the finished plumbing inspection. It is the responsibility of the contractor/installer to notify the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry when an installation for a state contract job,licensed facility,or project in an area where there is no local administrative authority is ready for an inspection and test. To schedule inspections, contact the state plumbing standards representative for your region, or call Jim Peterson at 651/284-5889. REQUIREMENT(S): 1. The vent serving the existing flammable waste interceptor must be constructed of an approved metallic material. The vent must rise within 45 degrees from the vertical,to a point at least 6 inches above the floor before offsetting horizontally or connecting to a branch vent(see Minnesota Rules,part 4715.2540, subpart 2). 2. A full-size vent stack(3-inch minimum)must be provided for every building(see Minnesota Rules, part 4715.2520, subpart 1). This stack must be continuous in size from its base to its terminal and should be the most remote stack from the location where the building drain leaves the building. The vent serving the flammable waste interceptor does not meet this requirement due to the water seal in the interceptor. 3. Faucets equipped with threaded hose connections must be provided with approved backflow preventers(see Minnesota Rules,part 4715.2110,DD). This shall include the mop sink faucet. A full-way valve must be provided on the cold water supply line to the water heater(see Minnesota Rules, part 4715.1800).Equipment used for heating water or storing hot water shall be protected by approved safety devices in accordance with Minnesota Rules,part 4715.2210 and part 4715.2230. Verify that a temperature and pressure relief valve is provided for the water heater. 5. Showers or combination showers-baths shall be equipped with antiscald-type control valves. These valves must be of the thermostatic or pressure balance type in accordance with ANSFASSE Standard 1016-96(see Minnesota Rules,part 4715.1380, subpart 5). 6. The maximum water volume per flush of a floor-mounted water closet shall be 1.6 gallons. Water closets shall comply with American National Standards Institute Al 12.19.6--1990(see Minnesota Statutes, Section 326.37, subpart 2).Water closets in public bathrooms must have elongated bowls with open-front seats. 7. The specifications indicate that the PVC to be used for the drain,waste,and vent system will meet ASTM D2846,which does not meet the requirements of the Minnesota Plumbing Code. If plastic pipe is used for the drain,waste and vent system: a. PVC plastic pipe shall comply with ASTM Standard D2665,D2949,F891. b. It must be installed in accordance with Minnesota Rules,part 4715.0580(F)and part 4715.0600. Above-grade horizontal runs of plastic waste and vent pipe cannot exceed 35 feet in total length. Above-grade vertical stacks constructed of plastic pipe may exceed 35 feet in total height only if an approved expansion joint is used. c. Solvent weld joints in PVC and CPVC pipe must include use of a primer which is of contrasting color to the pipe and cement(see Minnesota Rules,part 4715.08 10, subpart 2). 8. The specifications indicate that the CPVC to be used for the water distribution system will meet the requirements of ASTM Standard D2665,D2949,F891 which does not meet the requirements of the Minnesota Plumbing Code.Chlorinated polyvinyl chloride(CPVC)pipe must meet ASTM D2846(see Minnesota Rules,part 4715.0520). The installation must be in accordance with International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials(IAPMO)Installation Standards 20-98. 9. The plumbing system shall be tested in accordance with Minnesota Rules,part 4715.2820. 10. Disinfection of the potable water system must include the following(see Minnesota Rules,part 4715.2250): a. The pipe system must be flushed with clean,potable water until no dirty water appears at the points of outlet; b. The system must then be filled with a water chlorine solution containing at least 50 parts per million of chlorine and allowed to stand for 24 hours; or a solution containing at least 200 parts per million of chlorine and allowed to stand for three hours; and c. Following the allowed standing time the system must be flushed with clean potable water until no chlorine remains. � 4 Orono Building Plumbing Plan No. 085918 Page 3 October 24,2007 NOTE(S): 1. The scope of this project consists of the remodeling of an existing building. The plumbing installation includes restrooms, a shower, and a mop sink. 2. This facility is served by existing municipal water and sewer service connections. Authorization for construction in accordance with the approved plans may be withdrawn if construction is not undertaken within a period of two years. The fact that the plans have been approved does not necessarily mean that recommendations or requirements for change will not be made at some later time when changed conditions, additional information,or advanced knowledge make improvements necessary.
