As you requested;I have visited the above referenced residence to observe,the.condadon
of the foundation walls. T have also reviewed the drawings that you provided,illustrating
the proposed•addition of a new second floor over the.existing structpre, The.purpose of
my visit was to judge the wall condition and the propbsed work and to providean opinion
concerning.the adequacy of the existing 8" block'walls to.support the tctal.loa.ds.of"the
existing and pew construction- •

1 noted that the existing foundation walls were constructed as 10 course high wallsand
• were in nearly all cases that Could be measured,•8" nominal width. Nominal 1.2".walls. '
'..— were noted in the small.room that contained the oil tank. The existing walls support the
weight imposed by the.first floor and the roof. The walls at the north'side of the house
• support the gravity loads as well as lateral soil loads for nearly their full height... All of .
the walls will support the weight of an additional floor after the construction of the
proposed second floor. , . .
' ; I have performed calculations to determine the loads on.the existing foundation wails :.
' , imposed by the new construction. I find that the loads imposed will ncit exceed the .
. capacity of the existing walls. I have.also,considered the condition of the existing '
• foundation walls and it is'my opinion that the existing 8" masonry walls will perform
properly. . . •
