RE: Wetland Buffers ® 1006 Wildhurst Trail, Orono, MCWD Permit#05-115
Dear Mr. Scherber,
During a recent review of surety documents, an inspection at 1006 Wildhurst Trail was
conducted in regards to the approved Minnehaha Creek Watershed District permit#05-
115 for Rule B: Erosion control, Rule C: Floodplain alteration and Rule D: Wetland
protection issued on May 31, 2005.
One of the conditions of that permit approval was to have a declaration for
preservation of the wetland buffers executed and recorded with Hennepin
County. I have enclosed a copy of that document to emphasize the importance
to preserving the wetland buffer on your property. Please note that the map
attached shows the areas required to be preserved as wetland buffer with a
native grass/wildflower seed mix.
I have additionally attached a copy of what the Mn/DOT 15B seed mix should include.
I would encourage you to add more native plantings to the edge of your property and
especially along the Lakeshore to act as natural filters to stormwater runoff from your
home, driveway and provide additional habitat for birds, and other small wildlife
species. Please note the attached memo with websites that may be helpful in choosing
native plants.
Did you know that purple coneflowers and black eyed susans are MN natives??
Finally, it is very important that you understand the location of the areas
protected on your property as listed on your deed. Please notate them as
necessary to protect all native species from mowing and/or removal.
Please call me at 952-471-0590 x 205 with any questions.
Sincerely,
Angela Hammers
