Introduction
A structural evaluation of the residence at the above address has been performed to
evaluate elements of the original construction and subsequent additions for the additional
loads of a third story above the garage area of the house. Both elevated floors and roof
clear span from the exterior wall facing the lake to a girder on posts outside the garage
doors, On the lake side of the house the second floor cantilevers 6" over a 4" stud wall
that was part of the original structure. At the garage door side the elevated floors and roof
are supported on 3'/2"x 51/4" microlam columns on a 12" diameter pier bell to 24"
diameter at frost depth.
Conclusions
On the lake side of the house, modifications to the 2x4 stud wall are required as shown
on sheet 2, On the garage door side the microlam columns are satisfactory as is. The
girders need to be 4 ply 11 7/8" 1,9E LVL. Second floor walls are satisfactory as 2x6
SPF studs at 16" o.c.
