Dear Mr. Bren:
This is a response to your inquiry about the possibility of municipal sewer being provided for 1770
West Farm Rd. in the near future. The property in question is not within the Metropolitan Urban
Sewer Area (MUSA) so connection to sewer is not possible now and no sewer project is currently
being planned for this neighborhood.
This area is not likely to be sewered in the near future for several reasons. The current City of Orono
philosophy is to delay the expansion of municipal sewer by requiring two acre minimum lot sizes with
at least two drainfield sites per lot. This lot was created in 1984 with sufficient area for two drainfield
sites per lot and should provide adequate sewage treatment for many years to come. This property
is not directly adjacent to a sewer main for easy access and the existing sewer system does not at this
time have additional capacity to provide sewer to this neighborhood.
