Pudil President and CEO Washington Scientific Industries, Inc. 18151 Territorial Rd Osseo, MN 55369 RE: Washington Scientific Site II, 2605 West Wayzata Boulevard,Orono MPCA Project Number VP 10021 Monitoring Report Approval Letter Dear Mr. Pudil: The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency(MPCA) staff in the Voluntary Investigation and Cleanup (VIC)Unit are working cooperatively with you to address concerns associated with contaminated ground water at the Washington Scientific facility located at the above referenced address in Orono (the Site). This Site is being administered through the VIC Unit as the Washington Scientific H Site with project number VP10021. The MPCA staff have reviewed the "Ground Water Sampling Results, June 2002 Event," (the Report)prepared by Peer Environmental &Engineering Resources, Inc. (PEER), dated June 20, 2002. The Report summarizes results from sampling of the two sentinel wells MW-13 and MW-14; and wells MW-4D, MW-10, MW-11, and MW-15. No volatile organic compounds (VOCs) were detected in MW-10, MW-11, MW-12, MW-13, or MW-14. The VOC 1,1-dichloroethane was detected in MW-15 at 2.6 micrograms per liter(ug/1) and the total VOCs for MW-4D screened adjacent to the receptor trench was approximately 1,000 ug/L. The overall results support that the VOC concentrations are relatively consistent and stable. The next ground water monitoring event is scheduled for June 2003. The Report proposes that dismantling and abandonment of the ground water remediation system be considered if ground water concentration trends remain stable after the next monitoring event in 2003. The Report is hereby approved. 520 Lafayette Rd.
