r4INUTES OF ORONO PARK COMMISSION
Jan. 2, 1990
The meeting opened at 7:10 pm with the following in attendance: Kelley,
Vongries, Erger, Kokal, Bradley, and Public Works Director Gerhardson.
Absent: Flint, Gilbert and Sweatt.
The rninutes of the December, 1989, meeting were approved. The November
meeting minutes were corrected to show votes of 6-0 in favor of recom-
mendation of Park Dedication fee and Trails/Open Space amendments.
Fred Abrahamson, representing Fairview Covenant Church, appeared to report
that the church is not willing to donate its playground lot (Lot 7) to the
city, but would be willing to lease the lot for a 5-10 year period if the
city rAacquired adjoing Lot 6 from Hennepir. County. John G2rhdson said
the city, if it were to lease a playground area, would not consider a lease
of less than 30-40 years. He pointed out that there is a platted alley
between Lots 6 and 7 that would require vacation to effectively combine the
two lots. Mr. Abrahamson said the church will explore the possibility of
purchasing Lot 6 for itself, and will keep the Commission informed.
.
The terms of Kokal and Erger exred Dec. 31st. Kokal expressed a desire
for another 3-year terms. Erger asked to be reapponted by the City Council
to fill the remaining one year of Virginia Sweatt's term. She plans to
submit her resignation because extended vacations will cause her to miss
many meetings.
Commission members discussed work goals for 1990. Those mentioned include
preparing to construct a section of bike-hike trail, upgrading existing
park facilities and equipment, and trying to rove and restore the Stubbs
Bay schoolhouse.
The meeting adjourned at 8:35 PM. The next meeting is Monday, Feb. 5, 1990.
